Planet Smart City’s Water Management Innovation: A Billion Litres Saved in Pune

Planet Smart City, a prominent global player in the affordable housing market with a focus on Proptech and ESG-compliant real estate solutions, has achieved a remarkable milestone. The company has successfully managed an impressive 1 billion litres of water across more than 15,000 households in Pune.

As Pune residents grapple with an ongoing water crisis due to depleting resources and rapid urbanization, Planet Smart City’s innovative solution, Planet SIM, emerges as a timely and much-needed intervention. Developed by the company’s Digital Business unit, Planet SIM collects data to analyze consumption patterns and identify anomalies, enabling corrective actions. The platform’s deployment in over 60 residential societies has led to significant water and energy savings.

Mr. Marco Pilia, Managing Director India at Planet Smart City, expressed, “Planet Smart City is committed to creating affordable housing communities that prioritize environmental sustainability. Since the initial implementation of Planet SIM in Pune’s residential societies a year ago, we have effectively managed over 1 billion liters of water, resulting in substantial reductions in utility costs for these societies. Our innovative solution has enabled each society to achieve significant annual savings in water consumption, labor, and electricity expenses, resulting in both considerable financial benefits and a noteworthy reduction in our collective carbon footprint.”

He further noted, “Upon a detailed analysis of water consumption trends in Pune’s residential societies, we have observed that the water requirement per household ranges from 300 to 600 liters per day. Traditionally, these societies have managed their water resources independently. However, with the implementation of Planet SIM, we have the potential to reduce society water usage by an impressive 20 to 25 percent. This accomplishment not only reflects our commitment to sustainable water management but also has a positive impact on overall power consumption. Through this initiative, we have achieved a significant reduction in overall power consumption, ranging from 8 to 10 percent.”

Planet Smart City’s Planet SIM has ambitious plans to extend its reach to hundreds of societies by the end of 2023. Given the prevailing water crisis in Bengaluru, the digital unit is prepared to expand its offerings to the Silicon Valley of India.
