Persistent Garbage Burning Plagues Kharadi Residents, Calls for Permanent Solution

Residents of Kharadi are grappling with the recurring issue of garbage burning near the Zensar area, causing distress and environmental hazards in the locality. Despite concerns raised by residents and local authorities, a lasting solution to this problem remains elusive.

Harshal Ghadage, a resident, expressed frustration over the ongoing practice of garbage burning in Kharadi. He emphasized the urgent need for installing CCTV cameras to monitor and deter such activities, highlighting the adverse impact on air quality and public health.

Deepak Patil, Chairman of the Kharadi Housing Welfare Association, echoed these concerns, citing the frequent occurrence of garbage burning near PMC amenity spaces. Despite efforts to inform the authorities, the problem persists unabated, aggravating the plight of residents and commuters alike.

In response, Sushma Munde, Sanitary Inspector at PMC, claimed that the incidents of garbage burning have ceased in the area, offering reassurance to residents. However, the lack of concrete action from authorities has fueled skepticism regarding the effectiveness of proposed measures.

The situation in Kharadi reflects a broader trend of escalating garbage burning incidents across Pune, with recent reports highlighting similar challenges in neighborhoods like Kalyani Nagar. The alarming rise in air pollution due to these activities underscores the pressing need for comprehensive solutions to waste management issues plaguing the city.

As communities grapple with the repercussions of unchecked garbage burning, concerted efforts from both residents and authorities are essential to address this environmental menace and safeguard public health.
