Heartbreaking Quarry Tragedy: Young Lives Lost in Wagholi’s Shivarkar Nagar

In a shocking turn of events, two children, both aged around 12, met a tragic end as they drowned in a quarry situated in the Shivarkar Nagar area of Wagholi. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) fire brigade in Wagholi played a crucial role in retrieving the bodies from the quarry.

Quarry Tragedy Unfolds

Preliminary information reveals that a group of four to five children had ventured to swim in the waters of the quarry when the unfortunate incident occurred. Amidst the recreational activity, two of the children found themselves in distress and ultimately drowned. The victims, identified as Ali Ahmed Shaikh and Kartik Dashrath Dukre, both 12 years old, hailed from Wagholi.

Recent Drowning Incidents in the Region

This distressing incident comes on the heels of another drowning tragedy that transpired on January 21 in the Mutha River. An 18-year-old student from Kharadi lost his life while attempting to rescue his sister and another girl near Panshet Crematorium. The brave attempt to save the drowning girls resulted in the young man going missing in the river. Despite the efforts of nearby villagers, who rushed to the scene and successfully rescued the two girls, the student’s body was discovered a short distance away from the location.

The unfortunate incidents raise concerns about safety measures around water bodies, emphasizing the need for awareness and preventive measures. Local communities and authorities are urged to collaborate in creating awareness programs and implementing safety measures to prevent such tragic occurrences.
