Pune Metro’s recent streak of operational hiccups continues, with a new incident causing alarm among passengers. On Tuesday evening (24th October), the doors of the metro unexpectedly closed for approximately 10 minutes at Shivajinagar station, leading to disruptions in service and instilling fear among commuters.
This incident follows a series of recent occurrences raising questions about the reliability of Pune Metro’s operations. In response to the latest incident, the Pune Metro administration attributed the door closure to a technical problem. However, an official investigation has been initiated to determine the precise cause of the failure and prevent future reoccurrences.
A concerned passenger, witnessing the incident, promptly alerted Metro authorities about the door closure and a perceived fire threat. Despite the passenger’s call, the doors remained closed for ten minutes, heightening anxiety among metro users. In recent days, similar incidents of metro services being halted for at least twenty minutes due to power supply issues have been reported.
The troubles for Pune Metro started on October 13 when the service on the Vanaz to Ruby Hall route came to a sudden halt around 11:30 am due to a power cut. Trains on the route were stationary at stations, with one train idling near Mangalwar Peth metro station for approximately 21 minutes. Another disruption occurred on October 3 when services on the Vanaz to Ruby Hall route were suspended for 21 minutes following a bird hitting an overhead cable.
Earlier, on August 4, maintenance and repair work at Range Hills Extra High Voltage 132 KV Substation led to a 20-minute power outage in Pune Metro’s service due to a technical failure in the internal power system.
Passengers have voiced their frustration as these incidents continue to impact the reliability and efficiency of Pune Metro services, calling for swift and comprehensive solutions to ensure the safety and convenience of metro commuters.
