Night Heatwave? Pune Residents Brace for Above-Average Temperatures, Says IMD

As the week unfolds, Puneites are in for a weather surprise, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting warmer nights than usual. In addition to above-average night temperatures, the city is set to wake up to a thick layer of haze over the next 72 hours. Here’s a detailed update on what to expect from the Pune weather in the coming days.

Above-Average Nights and Hazy Dawns

IMD officials are pointing towards an atypical weather pattern in Pune, with minimum temperatures during the night expected to hover between 17-19 degrees Celsius. The sky, according to predictions, will be cloudy in the afternoon, giving way to hazy conditions in the morning. Recent reports confirm the presence of haze in certain parts of the city until 9 am on a Sunday.

Temperature Anomalies in Pune and Beyond

Shivajinagar and Lohegaon, two areas in Pune, recorded temperatures of 17.7 degrees Celsius and 19.1 degrees Celsius, respectively. These readings were three degrees and 4.1 degrees Celsius higher than the normal average. The trend extends beyond Pune, with many regions in Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha experiencing warmer nights than usual.

Specifically, in Madhya Maharashtra, temperatures ranged from 17 to 21.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, marking a significant departure from the norm—1.6 to 3 degrees above the usual night temperatures in these areas.

Rain on the Horizon

Looking ahead, Pune might experience light-intensity rainfall on November 15 and 16, as the current sky conditions indicate partial overcast. This potential rainfall follows earlier spells in early November, contributing to the city’s cumulative measurement of 46.4mm since October 1.

Stay tuned for updates as Pune navigates through this unexpected weather phenomenon, offering a glimpse into the city’s climatic nuances.
