New road will be built for Pune to Raigad travel; Commuters will cover distance in less time

BHOR: The government has given its approval for the construction of the new road at Shevte village in Mahad taluka from Bhordi village in Velhe taluka. Hence, a third road will be available for going to Raigad district.

At present, one can go to Raigad district through Varandh in Bhor taluka and Tamhini Ghat in Mulshi taluka. Since a road will be available passing through Velhe taluka, the citizens will have a smooth ride. Efforts were being made since many years to construct a road passing through Velhe taluka to go to Mahad.

MLA Sangram Thopte suggested the new Bhordi, Pishvi, Gugalshi, Pangari to Shevte route. The concerned department carried out a survey and sent a report to the state government. MLA Thopte said that funds of ₹25.32 crore were made available from phase 2 of the Mukhyamantri Gramsadak Yojana for the 13 km road.

Velhe to Bhordi Phata to Shevte is a 18 km road and approval for 13 km road has been received from the Mukhyamantri Gramsadak Yojana. Earlier, funds of ₹5 crore have been sanctioned for the 2.8 km road project. Officials of Velhe PWD said that pipelines will be laid at five places and 7.5 metre asphalted road will be built after levelling the ground.

The proposal for the remaining 2.2 km road has been sent to the R and D Department and a demand for funds of ₹4 crore has been made. Since the new road will be a shorter route, it will take less time to travel from Pune to Mahad and Raigad and will save fuel and money. Tourism on this route will also get a boost.

During the construction work, gutters and side markings will be made and an asphalted road of 7.5 metre width will be made. Because of hard rock near Pishvi village, a concrete patch spread over 350 metres will be made. Two bridges of 7.5 metre width and 15 metre length will be built at Gugulshi and Pangari. One bridge will be seven metres tall and the other will be five metres. A 900 metre returning wall and 94 large drains will also be built.

At present, the Pune to Mahad (Raigad district) journey can be completed via Bhor-Varandh 140 km route. However, via Tamhini Ghat in Mulshi taluka, Mahad is 160 km away. The new road via Bhordi and Shevte will be 120 km long and the journey will be reduced by 20 to 40 kilometres.

MLA Sangram Thopte said, “Passengers will save time by travelling on this new road. Residents of villagers on the route may get some employment opportunities. It will also boost tourism potential in the area and contribute to development of the taluka.”
