Inauguration Set for Next Week as Government Responds to Rising Demand for Medical Services

In a significant healthcare development, a 100-bed sub-district hospital is set to open its doors in Lohegaon and surrounding areas next week. This initiative comes in response to the increasing demand for healthcare facilities in the region, providing essential medical services closer to residents.

The hospital, housed in a spacious one-story building spanning six acres, will offer a range of facilities including a General Ward, ICU, laboratory support, and screening tests. With thirteen specialty departments such as Orthopedics, Medicine, Pediatrics, and Gynecology, among others, the hospital aims to cater to diverse medical needs within the community. Additionally, both minor and major operation theaters will be available to facilitate various medical procedures.

Dr. Nagnath Yempalay, the district civil surgeon, affirmed that the hospital is fully prepared, with final touches being made to essential electrical work, expected to conclude shortly.

“The inauguration of the hospital will take place once the code of conduct is over. Furthermore, plans are underway to establish a dialysis center in the near future,” stated Dr. Yempalay.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who reviewed the hospital’s progress last September, had urged officials to expedite completion by January 2024. However, despite initial timelines, the Public Works Department faced delays in the project’s execution.

The establishment of the hospital, undertaken by the Public Health Department at a cost of ₹38.8 crores, addresses a critical gap in healthcare accessibility, eliminating the need for residents to travel to Aundh District Hospital or Sassoon General Hospital for medical attention.

Upon its operationalization, the hospital will employ 96 staff members, including 13 doctors, nurses, and paramedical personnel. Additionally, plans are underway to construct a residential complex within the hospital campus to accommodate the healthcare workforce in the future.
