Pune, February 7, 2024 – A delegation of residents from Nanded City, spearheaded by Executive Director Satish Magar, convened with Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar to voice grievances against the Municipal Corporation’s property taxation policies, particularly those affecting property transactions.
During the meeting, residents raised concerns about the imposition of unnecessary transfer fees in flat resale transactions. They also highlighted the failure of PT3 (Property Tax) to provide the promised 40% discount, putting a financial burden on flat owners. The delegation, including prominent figures like Rupesh Ghule and Hemant Joshi, emphasized the urgent need for a fair and transparent taxation system.
Commissioner Kumar responded by announcing the extension of the 40 percent property tax exemption until March 31, providing temporary relief. He assured the delegation of further discussions to find a sustainable solution for the residents.
Several issues came to light during the meeting, including the complicated property taxation process during house resale, unjust taxation with fees lacking proper justification, non-receipt of property tax bills by some flat owners, problems with submitting PT3 forms due to insufficient staff, late fee charges for some flat owners, technical errors in bill calculations, payment of water bills despite no water supply, controversy surrounding the fire brigade tax, and alleged denial of property tax exemptions for projects like solar systems and sewage management.
The residents called for reforms, urging simplified property transaction procedures, relief for financially weaker residents, and a reconsideration of transfer fees. The Municipal Corporation is under increasing pressure to promptly address these issues and ensure a fair and transparent taxation system for Nanded City residents.
