Mundhwa’s Transformative Milestone: PMC’s 32-Year Land Acquisition Achievement

Pune Municipal Corporation

After a patient 32-year wait, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully acquiring land in the Mundhwa area. The road at Mahatma Phule Chowk, which was initially acquired by the PMC back in 1991, is finally set for a transformation into a 24-meter wide thoroughfare.

The Landowners’ Willing Cooperation

Landowners of Mahatma Phule Chowk in Mundhwa village, situated along the Kharadi road, have generously and willingly surrendered possession of their land to the Pune Municipal Corporation.

According to Prasad Katkar, Deputy Commissioner at PMC, “The PMC originally acquired this road in 1991, and the landowners of Mahatma Phule Chowk and the nearby area have wholeheartedly contributed their lands to the PMC. The plans and actions for its expansion have been set into motion recently. The road’s widening project extends from Mahatma Phule Chowk to the Kharadi Bridge on one side and from the Magarpatta Bridge to Mahatma Phule Chowk on the other side, covering a stretch of 550 meters. The road’s current width, which stands at 18 to 19 meters, will be expanded to 24 meters. The existing encroachments on this road are also being addressed to facilitate the expansion.”

Noteworthy Collaborative Efforts

The accomplishment of this land acquisition was the result of dedicated and coordinated efforts involving various PMC departments, including Vikas Dhakane, Additional Commissioner, Sandeep Ranvare, Executive Engineer, Balasaheb Dhavle, Mundhwa Division Assistant Commissioner, Pratibha Patil, Deputy Commissioner (Land Acquisition), Prasad Katkar, Sahebrao Dandge, Superintending Engineer, Sandeep Ranvare, Executive Engineer, Rohidas Gavane, along with PMC encroachment department officials, garden department personnel, staff, security guards, and the support of the local police.
