Mhalunge Maan Nagar Rachna Yojana Gains Environmental Clearance from State Government

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has secured environmental clearance from the state government for the Mhalunge Maan Nagar Rachna Yojana No.1, marking a significant step forward for the project.

Rahul Mahiwal, Commissioner of PMRDA, expressed, “With the environmental clearance granted by the State Government’s Environment Department for the Mhalunge Maan Nagar Rachna Yojana, the development of this project is set to gain momentum.”

Additional details from PMRDA reveal that the Mhalunge Maan Nagar Rachna Yojana project, covering an area of 250.50 hectares, has received the green signal for development. The scheme received initial government approval in December 2019, and the first modification process is currently underway due to changes in the river’s flood line.

The first draft of the urban planning scheme was approved by the Metropolitan Commissioner in accordance with a notification dated 30/12/2022. After completing hearings and gathering suggestions and objections, the plan will soon be submitted for final government approval. Environmental clearance from the state government was a crucial step for the project, and a presentation was made to the Environmental Impact Assessment Authority of the Environment Department on behalf of the authority, receiving a no-objection from the state government.

In the Mhalunge Maan Nagar Rachna Yojana, the acquisition of land along the proposed roads has been successfully executed, with approximately 25 kilometers of road proposed, including various widths:

  • 36m wide road (587 meters)
  • 30m wide road (2,492 meters)
  • 24m wide road (2,599 meters)
  • 18m wide road (5,366 meters)
  • 15m wide road (2,710 meters)
  • 12m wide road (5,906 meters)

The plan allocates 14.69 hectares for amenity plots, which will house a power substation, sewage treatment plant, parking lot, crematorium burial ground, cultural community center, and more. Additionally, 33.67 hectares of land will be dedicated to gardens, playgrounds, children’s playgrounds, river protection areas, open spaces, green belts, and more.

For the urban development plan, purified water will be supplied from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s water purification center in Warje, and a sewage treatment plant (STP) with a capacity of 32 million liters per day (MLD) will be constructed. The plan also includes beautification of the drainage system within the urban planning scheme.

As part of the initial phase, 141 trees will be removed from the roads, with 35 trees set to be relocated. A total of 13,630 new trees will be planted throughout the project. Environmental clearance has accelerated the development activities for the urban planning scheme, with three road projects and five canal bridges currently in progress.
