Maximum Cash Limit for Electricity Bill Payments Introduced from August 1

Pune, July 30, 2023: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) will be implementing a maximum cash payment limit for electricity bills in accordance with the directive issued by the Electricity Regulatory Commission. Starting from August 1, 2023, Mahavitaran customers (excluding the low-pressure agricultural category) will be subject to a maximum cash payment limit of Rs 5000 per month. Additionally, the monthly maximum cash payment limit will be set at Rs 50,000.

The move comes after the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission issued an order on March 31, 2023, aiming to promote digital transactions and streamline payment methods for electricity bills. By imposing a cash payment limit, MSEDCL intends to encourage customers to opt for online payment options, ensuring ease and accessibility for consumers.

Mahavitaran offers various convenient options for electricity bill payments online, making it hassle-free for customers to settle their bills. Through the website www.mahadiscom.in and the Mahavitaran mobile app, electricity consumers can pay their bills anytime and anywhere. The guidelines and procedures for these online payment methods are available on Mahavitaran’s website.

Customers have the flexibility to pay their bills electronically using credit/debit cards, net banking, UPI, or through Bharat Bill Payment (BBPS). For small pressure customers with bills exceeding Rs. 5,000, MSEDCL also provides the option of payment through RTGS/NEFT. The necessary customer-wise bank information required for such payments can be found on the electricity bill.

The online payment facility for electricity bills is free for all modes except credit cards. Additionally, customers receive a discount of 0.25 percent (maximum Rs. 500) on their bill amount when using online payment methods. The online payment system strictly adheres to the safety provisions of the Reserve Bank’s Payment and Settlement Act 2007. Presently, around 110 lakh customers (65 percent) of Mahavitaran are utilizing the online payment facility, contributing an average revenue of 2250 crores per month.

To ensure a seamless payment experience, customers making online payments will receive instant SMS notifications on their registered mobile numbers, and they can access their payment details and receipts on the website www.mahadiscom.in. The online electricity bill payment system is highly secure, and in case of any queries or complaints, customers can reach out to Mahavitaran via the email ID [email protected].

MSEDCL encourages all electricity consumers to take advantage of the hassle-free online payment services provided, which will not only help avoid long queues but also save valuable time. By embracing digital transactions, customers can contribute to a more efficient and streamlined electricity bill payment process.
