Massive Drug Bust in Lohegaon: Mephedrone and Heroin Worth Rs 58 Lakhs Seized by Crime Branch

Pune, August 24, 2023: In a major success for the city’s law enforcement, the anti-narcotics squad of the crime branch arrested a youth from Rajasthan for his involvement in drug trafficking in the Lohegaon area. The operation led to the seizure of a significant amount of Mephedrone and Heroin with an estimated value of Rs 58 lakhs.

The individual apprehended by the police has been identified as Gopichand Ramlal Bishnoi, aged 28, a resident of Charholi, Pune. Originally from Punasa Bhinmal in Jalore district, Rajasthan, Bishnoi was taken into custody by the meticulous efforts of policeman Yogesh Mandhere.

The information provided to policeman Yogesh Mandhere indicated that an individual was planning to sell mephedrone and heroin within the Lohegaon area. Responding promptly to the tip-off, the police conducted a targeted raid, successfully capturing Bishnoi. The seized contraband, with a total estimated value of Rs 58 lakhs and 57 thousand rupees, included 312 grams of Heroin, valued at around Rs 47 lakhs, and 54 grams of Mephedrone, approximately worth Rs 11 lakhs.

A formal case has been registered against Bishnoi at the airport (Vimantal) police station. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, DCP (Crime Branch) Amol Zende, and ACP Satish Govekar. Leading the operation were Police Inspector Sunil Thopte, Police Sub-Inspector S. D. Narke, and Digambar Chavan. This successful drug bust showcases the dedication and efficiency of the Pune police in curbing drug-related crimes and maintaining the safety of the city’s residents.
