Marching Towards a Pain-Free Tomorrow: Sancheti Hospital’s Walkathon 2023 Sheds Light on Arthritis

Sancheti Hospital hosted a remarkable Walkathon on Sunday, dedicated to raising awareness about arthritis. Over 3000 participants, including patients, students, and individuals from diverse backgrounds, joined the walkathon, which stretched from Sancheti Hospital to the Modern College Ground. The event commenced with the presence of distinguished guests, such as Mr. Sandeep Karnik (IPS), Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune, and Mr. Ravindra Binawade (IAS), Additional Commissioner PMC, Pune, along with Mr. Vikas Dhakane (IAS), Additional Commissioner PMC, Pune, and Prof. Dr. Gajanan Ekbote, Chairman of the Progressive Education Society, Pune. Dr. Arvind Mane, Senior Police Inspector of Shivajinagar, and Mr. Rajendra Shinde (Pehelwan), Chairman of the Waichand Bapuji Group of Hotels, also graced the occasion, alongside Dr. K.H. Sancheti, Dr. Parag Sancheti, Manisha Sanghvi, Rupal Sancheti, and other dignitaries.

Dr. Parag Sancheti, Chairman and Managing Director of Sancheti Hospital, emphasized the growing prevalence of arthritis, even among younger age groups. He underscored the urgent need for increased awareness and prevention, stating that arthritis is both preventable and treatable. Dr. Parag Sancheti also commended Mr. Rajendra Shinde, a remarkable individual who, despite suffering from osteoarthritis, underwent knee replacement surgeries for both legs. Following this, Shinde displayed remarkable determination by embarking on a 1252 km journey from Dhule to Tirupati Balaji in just 42 days.

Rupal Sancheti, Director of Sancheti Hospital, expressed profound gratitude for the overwhelming response and unwavering determination shown by all participants. She highlighted the power of collective efforts in combating arthritis, symbolizing that when a community unites, even the most formidable challenges can be overcome. Rupal Sancheti encouraged everyone to continue on the path toward a world free from arthritis.

The event saw the presence of representatives and patients from the Mission Arthritis Foundation, Pune Orthopaedic Society, Pune Doctors Association, and PM Shah Foundation. Enthusiastic participation came from students representing various educational institutions, including FC College, DES College, JSPM College of Pharmacy, COEP, Abasaheb Garware College, Sancheti College of Physiotherapy, Symbiosis College, Sancheti Nursing College, MMCC College, SP College, Karve Institute of Social Service, NCL College, Yashwantrao Chavan College, Appasaheb Jedhe College, BMCC, Modern College of Science Arts and Commerce, and Bharati Vidyapeeth.

World Arthritis Day, celebrated every year on 12th October since its inception in 1996, serves as a platform to raise awareness about musculoskeletal diseases and their impact on people’s lives.
