Mahila Sanman Yojana’s Success: 99 Lakh Women Avail 50% Concession on MSRTC Tickets in Pune

Pune, August 22nd, 2023: The ‘Mahila Sanman Yojana’ scheme introduced by the state government has gained significant traction within the Pune division, benefiting more than 99 lakh women who have availed the 50% concession in ticket fare. Launched in March of this year, the scheme grants women traveling in Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses across the state a 50% reduction in ticket prices.

According to officials from MSRTC, the highest influx of women passengers was observed in the month of May this year, coinciding with the summer holiday season. During May alone, a remarkable 27,88,489 women chose MSRTC buses for their travels within the Pune division. The momentum continued in subsequent months, with June and July reporting favorable responses as well. In June, 21,98,100 women passengers embraced the concession scheme, while July saw 21,18,645 women benefiting from the reduced fare initiative.

The state government introduced the ‘Mahila Sanman Yojana’ on March 12, with the scheme offering not only benefits to women but also free travel for passengers aged 75 years and above in MSRTC buses. Highlighting the significance of this initiative, officials disclosed that between March and July, a total of 42,11,785 senior citizens aged 75 and above availed themselves of the free travel opportunity on MSRTC buses within the Pune division.

This surge in the utilization of the concession scheme highlights the positive impact of measures aimed at promoting women’s travel and making transportation more accessible to senior citizens. The ‘Mahila Sanman Yojana’ is emblematic of the government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, empowering women, and ensuring comfortable travel experiences for the elderly. As more individuals reap the benefits of these initiatives, it becomes increasingly evident that such progressive policies contribute not only to enhanced mobility but also to the overall wellbeing of society.
