Pune Division Ranks Second in Maharashtra with 97 Reported Bribery Cases This Year

Pune, August 22nd, 2023: As corruption cases show an unfortunate increase in Maharashtra this year, the Pune division has secured the second position in the tally of reported cases until August. Official records reveal that Nashik claims the highest position with 109 reported bribery cases until August 20 this year, while Pune follows closely with 97 cases documented thus far.

A disheartening 13% surge has been witnessed in the overall number of bribery cases across the state. Comparing statistics, last year recorded 481 cases of bribery reported in Maharashtra by August, a figure that has risen to 545 cases in the current year. Further analysis shows that Aurangabad division has reported 93 bribery cases, followed by 63 cases in the Thane division, 59 cases in the Amravati division, 56 cases in the Nagpur division, 45 cases in the Nanded division, and 23 cases in the Mumbai division.

It is important to note that the Pune division of the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) encompasses Pune, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, and Solapur districts. In connection with the 97 reported corruption cases in Pune this year, a total of 139 individuals have been apprehended. The ACB officials reveal that the highest number of bribery cases were identified within the state’s revenue department, followed by the police department. Specifically, the revenue department accounted for 147 reported bribery cases, whereas 97 cases were registered within the police department of Maharashtra.

This alarming rise in bribery cases underscores the significance of continuous efforts to combat corruption within various sectors of the government and public administration. While the authorities work diligently to apprehend the culprits and implement stricter measures against such illicit activities, it is a collective responsibility to cultivate a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct within society. The reported statistics serve as a reminder of the imperative need for sustained actions to curb corruption and uphold the integrity of public institutions.
