Maharashtra’s Effortless Electricity Connection Transfers for Property Buyers

Electricity Connections

In a significant development, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has collaborated with the Registration and Stamp Department (IGR) to simplify the process of transferring electricity connections for buyers of old properties. This integration aims to drastically reduce the time and effort required for property buyers to assume control of the electricity connection or billing after the residence registration.

The collaboration between MSEDCL and the Registration and Stamp Department has led to the automation of name changes on electricity bills, streamlining the process. Previously, old property buyers had to navigate a separate and often time-consuming online application process for electricity connections, involving the submission of various documents like identity cards and index 2. However, this new initiative is set to revolutionize the experience for property buyers.

Nishikant Raut, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Pune Circle of MSEDCL, shared, “The Department of Registration and Stamps (IGR) introduced the ‘public data entry’ portal for property registrations in December. Unfortunately, many people are not aware of the name change option on the property registration portal. Therefore, we are urging people to take advantage of this feature.”

He continued, “During the registration of old properties, buyers can now select the option to change the name on the electricity bill. Following the completion of the registration process, MSEDCL’s computerized system automatically initiates the name change process on the electricity bill.”

According to MSEDCL officials, within 60 days of this initiation, property buyers receive an SMS notification, accompanied by a web link to pay the processing fee online. The processing fee invoice is also accessible on Mahadiscom’s official website (www.mahadiscom.in) and their mobile app.

In situations where a property is purchased in the same name, applicants are not required to upload any additional documents. However, if the property is bought in multiple names, the consent and no-objection certificates from the respective parties are necessary for the successful transfer of the electricity connection.

MSEDCL promptly sends an SMS notification with a web link to the registered mobile number for this purpose. Failing to pay the processing fee within the stipulated 60 days or neglecting to upload the required No Objection Certificate (NoC) results in the automatic cancellation of the name change process. Subsequently, customers must follow the existing procedure to change the name on the electricity connection.
