Title: “Tragedy Strikes on Pune-Mumbai Highway: Fatal Collision Claims Lives in Container Crash”

In a heart-wrenching incident on the Old Mumbai – Pune Highway, a speeding container overturned, leading to a fatal collision with two two-wheelers. The devastating crash, which occurred in front of Mayur Retreat between Lonavala and Khandala around 2:45 pm, resulted in the loss of two lives, including that of a young girl, and left three others injured.

Unraveling the Incident

Reports suggest that a large container, in violation of the prohibition on heavy vehicles on the national highway passing through Lonavala city, was traveling from Pune towards Mumbai. Shortly beyond Lonavala city, the container overturned on a slope and bend, colliding with two two-wheelers heading towards Lonavala.

Casualties and Injuries

Tragically, two individuals, along with a small girl, lost their lives in this horrific accident. Additionally, a small child and two others sustained injuries. The incident has raised critical questions about the enforcement of regulations on heavy vehicles, especially in the Lonavala area.

Calls for Accountability

Kiran Gaikwad, a resident of Lonavala, is urging authorities to register a culpable homicide case against the container’s driver. Gaikwad highlights the persistent issue of heavy vehicles breaching restrictions despite the Collector Pune’s ban on their entry on the national highway passing through Lonavala city during the day. The tragic loss of innocent lives, especially on a festival day, has intensified calls for stricter enforcement of rules to prevent such incidents in the future.
