Lights Out: Pune Grapples with Power Woes Following Adani’s Technical Hitch

In a sudden turn of events, Pune faced a power disruption as Adani Energy Solutions Ltd’s crucial 400 KV power line from Shikrapur to Talegaon encountered a technical failure. The incident, occurring around 4 am on Saturday, led to a power deficit of approximately 209 Megawatts (MW), challenging load management and resulting in unregulated power supply in various areas.

The Technical Glitch Unveiled:

The unexpected technical failure impacted the functioning of Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Ltd (MSETCL) and Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) sub-centers. Consequently, parts of Pimpri Chinchwad city, Kharadi, Chandan Nagar, Maval, Uruli Kanchan, and more experienced unanticipated power regulations from 7:14 am to 8:45 am.

Activating Load Trimming Scheme (LTS):

In response to the crisis, the Load Trimming Scheme (LTS) system was activated for load management. This strategic move led to the temporary shutdown of power supply to crucial MSETCL high voltage substations, including 132 KV Rahatni, 220 KV Chinchwad, 220 KV Theur, 132 KV Yav, and 220 KV Urse, aiming to offset the 209 MW deficit.

Areas Affected and Customer Impact:

The ripple effect extended to MSEDCL’s sub-stations, disrupting power supply to approximately 2 lakh customers in various areas. Regions such as Pimpri, Chinchwad, Pimple Saudagar, Kalevasti, Thergaon, Wakad, Nigdi, Pradhikaran, Kiwale, Kharadi, Chandan Nagar, parts of Maval, Uruli Kanchan city, Kunjirwadi, Theur, Shindevadi Ashtapur, Hingangaon, Khamgaon Tek, Tilekar Wadi, and more felt the brunt of the outage. Notably, around 19 thousand customers had to endure a temporary power shutdown for one and a half hours in the morning.
