Kondhwa Police Crackdown: 12 Arrested for Bopdev Ghat Robberies, 3 Cases Solved

Pune, India – The Kondhwa police have made significant strides in solving a string of robbery cases at Bopdev Ghat, a popular tourist destination, apprehending 12 individuals involved in the crimes. The accused, operating in organised groups, targeted unsuspecting visitors, looting valuables worth ₹1,01,500 in the process.

Bopdev Ghat, known for its scenic beauty, attracts a significant number of tourists, especially on weekends. Recognizing the vulnerability of these visitors, the perpetrators threatened and robbed them at knifepoint before escaping to nearby villages.

According to Santosh Sonawane, senior police inspector at Kondhwa, the police successfully cracked down on the entire robbery gang over the past year, solving three cases. He stated, “There were complaints of targeting tourists in Bopdev Ghat. Following each case, we have almost dismantled the entire robbery gang by arresting 12 individuals in the last year.”

On January 31, the police arrested two individuals, Nagesh Sanjay Chavan and Chetan Sitaram Khaire, suspected of looting students at Bopdev Ghat. These arrests are part of the ongoing efforts to secure the location and deter criminal activities.

Senior Police Inspector Sonawane reiterated the commitment to maintaining a strong and proactive presence in ghat sections to curb criminal activities.
