Khandala Tragedy: Fatal Accident Claims One Life and Injures Two on Mumbai-Pune Highway, Pickup Truck Trapped Under Container

Khandala, a popular hill station nestled in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra, is now marred by a tragic incident that occurred on the Mumbai-Pune National Highway. In the early hours of the 24th of June, a fatal accident took place at Anda Point in the Khandala Ghat, resulting in the loss of one life and leaving two others injured.

The incident unfolded when a speeding container, en route from Lonavala to Mumbai, lost control while navigating the treacherous slope and curve at Anda Point. The driver’s inability to maneuver the vehicle led to a collision with two pickup tempos before the container toppled over. Shockingly, one of the pickup trucks became trapped beneath the weight of the container, with tragic consequences.

Tragically, the driver of the pickup truck that was trapped under the container lost his life in the accident. Despite the prompt response from the authorities, he was unable to escape the wreckage. However, the efficient efforts of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation and a dedicated social organization in Khopoli resulted in the rescue of the two injured individuals. They were swiftly provided medical assistance and transported to a nearby healthcare facility for further treatment.

The Borghat Police, Khopoli Police, and IRB (Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited) were among the first responders at the scene. Working in tandem, they ensured a coordinated response to the accident. Presently, a crane has been deployed in the Khandala area to extricate the trapped driver and remove the pickup vehicle from beneath the overturned container.
