Katraj Metro Nears Approval: Commuters Anticipate Swift Expansion Before Lok Sabha Elections

In a strategic move to expand the reach of Pune’s Metro network before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Katraj Metro project is poised to receive approval from the Central Government within the next month. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is set to conduct the final inspection for the 5.5km Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi Metro stretch next week, with expectations of swift approval.

Sources within Pune’s political circles suggest that commuters may soon benefit from the operational Ruby Hall Clinic – Ramwadi stretch before the Lok Sabha elections. The preliminary inspections conducted by a CMRS team last week paved the way for the upcoming final inspection, as confirmed by a senior Maha Metro official.

Upon the operationalization of the Ruby Hall-Ramwadi section, residents from the Nagar Road area will have direct connectivity to Deccan Gymkhana and Kothrud, according to Maha Metro officials. This anticipated expansion aims to enhance connectivity and convenience for Pune’s residents.

While commuters eagerly await the completion of the Civil Court to Swargate stretch, officials acknowledge the urgency but express skepticism about meeting the April 2024 deadline. The proposed expansion aligns with a broader strategy to bolster the city’s public transportation infrastructure ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
