Katraj Dairy’s Gift to Consumers: Toned Milk Price Slashed by Rs 2 per Litre

Pune’s renowned dairy brand, Katraj, under the Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, has announced a price reduction of Rs 2 per litre for its double-toned milk pouches. Starting from December 1, customers can purchase 1-litre pouches at the revised rate of Rs 53. Additionally, the 250 gm pack of extra-protein milk will now be priced at Rs 12.

This move follows a period of agitation among Maharashtra dairy farmers, who have been protesting against the low prices offered by dairies for milk procurement. The current pricing, ranging from Rs. 28 to Rs. 39 per litre for milk containing 3.5% fat and 8.5% SNF (Solids-Not-Fat), has sparked concerns among farmers, prompting calls for government intervention.

Facing an abundance of milk and diminished demand for dairy products, cooperative dairies have struggled to pay higher prices, citing challenges in exporting excess milk due to the global market’s low prices for skimmed milk powder.

In response to market dynamics and the ongoing farmers’ protests, Katraj Dairy’s decision to lower consumer prices is seen as an effort to pass on benefits to customers while potentially boosting sales and addressing the issue of excess milk collection.
