IMD Issues Warning of Unseasonal Rain and Hailstorms in Maharashtra

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised alarms of impending hailstorms in certain districts of Maharashtra. Unseasonal rainfall and hail are projected to hit Ahmednagar and Nashik on Thursday, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds ranging from 50 to 60 km per hour. An orange warning has been issued by the meteorological department, indicating significant weather phenomena.

Meanwhile, amidst the looming threat of hailstorms, Mumbai, along with its surrounding areas such as Raigad, Thane, and Palghar, remains under the grip of a heat wave advisory, exacerbating the contrast in weather conditions across the state.

According to the IMD’s latest forecasts, unseasonal rainfall is anticipated to sweep across Maharashtra today, with specific emphasis on Ahmednagar and Nashik districts where hailstorms are likely to occur. Nashik city, in particular, is bracing for unseasonal downpours coupled with strong gale-force winds, accompanied by sporadic instances of hailstorms. Wind speeds ranging from 40 to 60 km per hour are predicted in isolated pockets throughout the state, posing potential risks of damage to property and infrastructure.

The surge in humidity levels, propelled by the influx of evaporated air from the Arabian Sea, has fostered conducive conditions for cloud formation, exacerbated by soaring temperatures at the local level. The IMD underscores that the occurrence of hail is closely linked to the formation of high-altitude clouds, further underscoring the dynamic interplay between atmospheric elements shaping the region’s weather patterns.

As Maharashtra braces for the onset of unseasonal precipitation and hailstorms, residents and authorities are urged to exercise caution and remain vigilant against potential hazards posed by inclement weather conditions. The IMD continues to closely monitor the evolving weather situation, providing timely updates and advisories to ensure the safety and well-being of the populace.
