IMD Issues Orange and Yellow Alerts: Pune Anticipates Resumption of Rainfall

After a dry spell, Pune and neighboring districts in Maharashtra anticipate much-needed rainfall.

Pune and several districts in Maharashtra can breathe a sigh of relief as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for the next four days, signaling a return of rainfall after a short dry spell. This news comes as a relief to farmers and citizens who have been concerned about the reduced rainfall this year.

According to the IMD forecast, Pune district is likely to experience “heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas” on September 15. Furthermore, “heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places in ghat areas” has been predicted for September 16, 17, and 18. Apart from Pune, the IMD has also indicated heavy rainfall expectations for districts including Kolhapur, Satara, Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Amravati, and others.

Officials have attributed this anticipated rainfall to a low-pressure area that has formed over the Bay of Bengal, bringing hope to many regions in the country. Maharashtra has faced a rainfall deficit this year, with several districts reporting significantly lower than average precipitation levels. This shortfall has resulted in a crisis for farmers, particularly in the Marathwada region, where crops have suffered due to the lack of rain. Activists and political leaders have even called for drought declarations in some areas.
