Government Gears Up for Pandharpur Palkhi: Key Insights from Ajit Pawar’s Meeting

As the Ashadi Ekadashi Wari 2024 approaches, Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, convened a crucial meeting on Friday to assess the readiness for the Pandharpur Palkhi procession. This significant religious event, set to begin in Pune and culminate in Pandharpur on June 28, demands meticulous planning and execution.

Ensuring Smooth Palkhi Arrangements

During the meeting at Vidhan Bhavan Pune, Pawar assured the district administration of the government’s commitment to providing the necessary funds for the Palkhi ceremony. He emphasized that until state funds are allocated, the district planning committee’s resources should be utilized to ensure all preparations are on track.

Key attendees included MLAs Dilip Mohite Patil, Sanjay Jagtap, Dattatray Bharne, Samadhan Awatade, Babandada Shinde, Sanjay Shinde, and Sunil Kamble. High-ranking officials such as Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale, PMRDA Commissioner Rahul Mahiwal, and other senior officers from Pune and Solapur were also present.

Focus on Cleanliness and Infrastructure

DCM Pawar highlighted the importance of maintaining cleanliness during the Palkhi. He directed that adequate arrangements be made for mobile toilets and water tankers, with a particular focus on the hygiene of these facilities. He also emphasized the need for the immediate cleaning of the Indrayani River and ensuring that Pandharpur city remains clean post-ceremony. Additionally, electric power arrangements for night-time Palkhi activities were discussed.

Pawar proposed a long-term plan for the permanent allocation of land along the Palkhi route, to be used for the festival and other purposes throughout the year. This initiative aims to prevent encroachment and ensure the availability of necessary facilities.

Comprehensive Support from the Government

The Deputy Chief Minister assured that the government and administration would fully support the Palkhi ceremony, including provisions for security and other necessary arrangements for processions coming from various districts. In case of any accidents during the Wari, the government will provide financial assistance to those affected.

Enhanced Manpower and Technological Integration

Divisional Commissioner Pulkundwar announced that additional manpower has been hired for mobile toilets and sanitation services. Ongoing roadworks are expected to be completed before the Palkhi begins. An innovative app for the Ashadi Wari, developed by the Public Works Department, will offer vital information to participants. A contact book will also be prepared by the administration to streamline coordination.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar briefed the gathering on security and traffic management plans. DCM Pawar launched an app specifically designed to inform participants about toilet facilities during the Palkhi ceremony, enhancing convenience and accessibility.
