As the Ganesh festival unfolds, Pune City Police grapple with a surge in mobile theft cases, with 927 online complaints registered in just six days through the police’s lost and found portal.
The Pune City Police are facing an uphill battle in managing mobile theft incidents, especially during the bustling Ganesh festival celebrations across the city. According to official reports, a staggering total of 927 individuals have filed online complaints regarding mobile theft using the “lost and found” feature on the Pune City Police’s official website.
The police have provided citizens with the option to report cases of mobile phone theft or loss through the official Pune City Police website. While some individuals prefer to visit the police station in person to file their complaints, the majority have opted for the online reporting mechanism. Out of the 927 complaints received online, the city police have successfully recovered 25 stolen mobile phones, but the search for the remaining devices is ongoing.
City police officials reveal that over the last eight months, a grand total of 25,557 such cases have been documented through the lost and found portal, resulting in the recovery of 671 stolen mobile phones by the police. Additionally, the central government has recently introduced a portal called the “Central Equipment Identity Register” (CEIR), offering citizens an avenue to report lost mobile phones or SIM cards.
While urging citizens to remain vigilant and safeguard their belongings when visiting crowded festival venues, the city police have assured the public that undercover police personnel have been deployed to apprehend potential thieves.
