G20 Influence: PMC Revives Heritage Corridor Project Around Shaniwarwada

In a bid to enhance the cultural and architectural significance of the area, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has unveiled plans to develop a heritage corridor around Shaniwarwada. Drawing inspiration from Western cities, PMC aims to establish a cohesive visual identity by implementing a single color code for buildings, walkways, and even bus stops within the vicinity.

The traditional Wada color, synonymous with the historical architecture of the region, will be the focal point of this ambitious project. The PMC envisions using this distinctive color for a multitude of elements, ranging from buildings to street furniture and electric poles along the heritage corridor. Even modern structures in the vicinity will adopt the traditional Wada color, contributing to a harmonious visual experience for visitors and residents alike.

A senior PMC official revealed that the idea for the heritage corridor had initially been conceived during the G20 conference, with the original plan extending from Shaniwarwada to Vishrambaug Wada. However, the project was temporarily shelved as administrative attention shifted to crucial infrastructure improvements.

During the G20 summit, foreign delegates exploring the ancient city expressed keen interest in the historical Wadas, including Nana Wada, Dagdusheth Ganpati, and Shaniwarwada. Their appreciation for Pune’s cultural heritage served as a catalyst for revisiting and prioritizing the creation of a heritage corridor around Shaniwarwada.

This initiative aims not only to preserve Pune’s rich historical legacy but also to provide locals and visitors with an immersive and aesthetically pleasing experience as they explore the city’s heritage sites.
