Future-Ready Transit: PMPML’s Vision for Pune Airport Connectivity Gears Up for Terminal Opening

In a proactive effort to revive and enhance the Pune airport bus service, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) is set to enter negotiations with the airport’s management. The aim is to secure permission for buses to stop in close proximity to the terminal, providing travelers with a more convenient and seamless experience.

A PMPML official revealed that while the ABHI (Airport Bus for Business, Home, and Hotel Connectivity) bus service wasn’t initially slated for revival, plans are underway to adapt it in response to the imminent opening of the airport’s new terminal building.

According to a senior PMPML official, there are currently 21 bus routes passing through Lohegaon en route to various destinations. The proposal is to coordinate these buses to halt near the Pune airport structure. Previous discussions with airport authorities faced resistance, citing potential traffic issues. However, the PMPML plans to reopen dialogue on the matter.

The Pune metro authorities and the PMPML have already finalized plans for three shuttle buses connecting Yerawada metro station and Ramwadi station to the Pune airport.

Another PMPML official expressed optimism about enhancing their services in anticipation of the commencement of the airport’s new construction. With expectations that passengers will find it convenient if buses stop near the airport building, discussions are ongoing to integrate general bus services that will have stops in proximity to the airport structure. This move signifies a commitment to providing improved connectivity for air travelers.
