Pune: Passengers of the Azad Hind Express and Jhelum Express trains have been voicing their frustration and concerns as both trains continue to experience prolonged and frequent delays in reaching Pune, leading to disrupted schedules and inconvenience for travelers.
In Conversation, Dr. Ramdas Bhise, Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) and PRO of Pune Railways, shed light on the issue. He explained, “Currently, there are four rakes for Azad Hind Express and five rakes for Jhelum Express. Due to the ongoing delays, the rakes of these trains are being utilized on a ‘first-come-first-use’ basis. This strategy aims to prevent the cancellation of Azad Hind Express or significant delays in its departure. Unfortunately, Azad Hind Express often faces delays from the South East Railway division. We are engaged in constant discussions with the relevant authorities to find solutions to ensure that these trains run on time consistently.”
According to information provided by Bhise, there are four rakes for the Pune-Howrah Azad Hind Express train, but there have been instances in the past when the train had to be canceled due to operational challenges. Recent disruptions in the schedule of Howrah Express led to the unavailability of its ‘rake’ for Azad Hind Express. Consequently, the Jhelum Express faced interruptions in its schedule as well.
The Howrah Azad Hind Express departing from Pune has been experiencing irregularities in its schedule for the past three months. Instances of cancellations or delays have become commonplace. Similarly, the Jhelum Express, which departs from Pune railway station at 5:20 PM daily and covers a distance of 2,179 km to reach Jammu Tawi at 10:15 am on the third day, has encountered disruptions since July 31. This express train has been consistently delayed by five to seven hours every day, resulting in passengers having to endure extended waits at the railway station.
