Red Dead Redemption Coming to PS4 and Switch, Original Title Release Confirmed

Rockstar Games has officially announced the release of the original Red Dead Redemption for Sony PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. However, this release is not the much-anticipated remake that fans have been hoping for. Instead, it is the original title that was initially launched in 2010.

The iconic Red Dead Redemption, known for its immersive storytelling and expansive open world, was originally released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Now, gamers on PlayStation 4 and Switch will have the opportunity to relive or experience for the first time this critically acclaimed game. The digital version of the game is set to hit the virtual shelves on August 17, while the physical edition will be available on October 13.

It’s important to note that this release is essentially a port of the original game, which will also include the Undead Nightmare DLC. The pricing for this experience is set at $49.99. Additionally, the game will be available in multiple languages, catering to a diverse range of players around the world, including Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish.

Fans who had been eagerly anticipating a remake of the original Red Dead Redemption might be disappointed to learn that those plans seem to have been put on hold. The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy, which includes GTA III, GTA Vice City, and GTA San Andreas, encountered issues with subpar sales and negative reviews on platforms like Steam. While Rockstar has been working to address these problems, it appears to have shifted their priorities away from remastering Red Dead Redemption.

The original Red Dead Redemption, despite its initial release back in 2010, remains a beloved title in the gaming community. Set after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, the game follows the journey of former outlaw John Marston as he seeks to track down the remaining members of the Van Der Linde Gang to safeguard his family.

In the words of Rockstar Games, “Red Dead Redemption tells the story of former outlaw John Marston as he journeys across the sprawling expanses of the American West and Mexico to track down the last remaining members of the notorious Van Der Linde Gang in a bid to save his family. Relive, or experience for the first time the events immediately following the epic tale of honor and loyalty in the 2018 blockbuster Red Dead Redemption 2 and Marston hunts down his former friends and outlaws Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella, and his former gang leader, Dutch van der Linde as the era of the cowboy comes to its end.”

While fans might have to wait for the remake of Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar Games is currently focusing on the highly anticipated GTA 6. With GTA 5 celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the next installment in the series is not expected to arrive until 2024 or 2025, leaving players eager for another dose of Rockstar’s signature open-world gaming experience.
