From Smart Cities to Municipal Mandates: Prithviraj Meena’s Transition to Pune

In the wake of recent municipal commissioner transfers, the state government has undertaken a series of reshuffles, appointing Dr. Kunal Khemnar as the new Sugar Commissioner and Prithviraj Meena as the Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). The changes come as part of a broader realignment of administrative roles in response to evolving needs and responsibilities.

Dr. Kunal Khemnar, who previously served as Additional Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation since August 21, 2020, has now been reassigned to the role of Sugar Commissioner. During his tenure at PMC, Dr. Khemnar made significant contributions to various municipal projects, demonstrating his commitment to public service and governance.

Meanwhile, Prithviraj Meena, former CEO of Nagpur Smart City, assumes the mantle of Additional Commissioner at PMC, bringing with him a wealth of experience in urban development and administration. His appointment reflects the state government’s focus on bolstering municipal infrastructure and fostering sustainable growth in urban areas.

The reshuffle extends beyond PMC, with Santosh Patil, Chief Executive Officer of Kolhapur Zilla Parishad, appointed as the new CEO of Pune Zilla Parishad. Additionally, the state government has made several other key appointments, including the placement of Ashwini Bhide as the Managing Director of Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation and Abhijit Bangar as the Additional Commissioner in Mumbai Municipal Corporation.

Notably, thirteen chartered officers have been transferred in total, following directives from the Central Election Commission. These changes reflect the government’s commitment to optimizing administrative efficiency and ensuring effective governance across various sectors.

The newly appointed officials are expected to leverage their expertise and leadership skills to address critical challenges and drive forward key initiatives, ultimately contributing to the overall development and welfare of the respective regions they serve.
