The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has issued a stern warning to electric meter reading agencies after detecting discrepancies in their submitted records. The power utility company has emphasized the need for accurate meter readings and is prepared to take legal action against agencies engaged in fraudulent practices.
Cracking Down on Fraud
In response to reports of irregularities in records submitted by meter reading agencies, the MSEDCL is taking a strong stance against any fraudulent activities. The company recently chaired a meeting with 73 meter reading agencies in the Pune circle to address these concerns.
Photo Readings and Online Submission
Meter reading agencies typically employ mobile apps and online platforms to capture photo readings of meters. This digital approach is intended to streamline the meter reading process. However, concerns have arisen regarding the accuracy of the data provided by these agencies.
Emphasizing Accuracy
Rajendra Pawar, Chief Engineer of MSEDCL Pune Circle, presided over the meeting and stressed the importance of precise meter readings. The responsibility of ensuring accuracy in meter readings lies squarely on the shoulders of these agencies.
Monitoring and Evaluation
To maintain accountability and prevent fraudulent practices, MSEDCL officials are rigorously examining two percent of meter readings each month. Pune Circle, which encompasses a substantial 3.315 million low-tension consumers, boasts a reported accuracy rate of 95 percent in its billings.
