Empowering Traditional Artisans: Vishwakarma Yojana to Launch Next Month with Significant Budget

The Indian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to introduce the ‘Vishwakarma Yojana’ in the upcoming month. This visionary scheme has been allocated a substantial budget ranging from Rs 13,000 crore to Rs 15,000 crore and is aimed at uplifting individuals possessing traditional skills.

In his address to the nation on the occasion of India’s 77th Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi revealed that the Vishwakarma Yojana is meticulously designed to benefit skilled workers who specialize in traditional crafts. The categories of beneficiaries include professions such as barbers, goldsmiths, washermen, and others who contribute significantly to the cultural heritage and social fabric of the nation through their traditional expertise.

This innovative scheme is scheduled to be launched on Vishwakarma Jayanti, which falls on September 17, 2023. Vishwakarma Jayanti is a day dedicated to the revered deity Vishwakarma, known as the divine architect and craftsman according to Hindu mythology. The choice of this auspicious day for the launch reflects the government’s commitment to honoring and uplifting the skilled workers who play a vital role in preserving and advancing the nation’s rich traditional skills.

The announcement of the Vishwakarma Scheme comes as a significant step towards recognizing and empowering individuals engaged in various traditional professions. These skilled artisans and craftsmen contribute to the diverse cultural tapestry of India while often facing socio-economic challenges. The scheme’s financial allocation underscores the government’s determination to provide a platform for growth and prosperity to these skilled workers.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his enthusiasm for the forthcoming launch during his Independence Day speech. He affirmed, ”The government will launch the Vishwakarma Scheme with an allocation of Rs 13,000 to 15,000 crore in the next month for those with traditional skills.” This financial commitment showcases the government’s dedication to promoting and nurturing the traditional skills that are deeply ingrained in the country’s identity.
