Empowering Pune Metro: Inauguration of Solar Power Plant at Range Hill Depot

In a significant step towards its vision of an energy-efficient and environmentally conscious metro rail system, Pune Metro inaugurated the Solar Power Plant at Range Hill Depot today. The plant, part of Pune Metro Rail Project’s commitment to green energy, marks a crucial milestone in promoting sustainability and reducing carbon emissions.

Pune Metro’s Green Vision

The Pune Metro Rail Project encompasses two corridors, the North-South Corridor (Purple line) and the East-West Corridor (Aqua line), covering a total length of 33.2 kilometers and 30 stations. Pune Metro aims to establish a metro rail system of international standards that not only enhances the city’s transportation infrastructure but also contributes to its overall development.

Harnessing Green Energy

Pune Metro has been actively pursuing the utilization of renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, to reduce its carbon footprint. Solar panels have been installed at 10 stations and two car maintenance depots, including Vanaz, Anand Nagar, Ideal Colony, and more. Today’s inauguration of the Solar Power Plant at Range Hill Depot further signifies Pune Metro’s commitment to harnessing the full potential of green energy.

Key Highlights of the Solar Power Plant:

  • Capacity: The solar plant at Range Hill Depot has a capacity of 4300 kWp.
  • Annual Electricity Generation: Expected to generate 7 million units of electricity annually.
  • Emissions Reduction: Significant reduction in CO2 emissions, contributing to environmental conservation.
  • Operational Model: Installed and operated by Jhamtani Prosumers Solar Pvt. Ltd. under the RESCO mode for the next 25 years.

Savings and Increased Energy Export

Since the commissioning of the solar panels at Range Hill Depot, the average energy export has seen a remarkable increase, from approximately 1000-1300 units/day to about 4300 units/day. The daily average power generation through solar panels is an impressive 15,557 units (kWh), resulting in an estimated Rs. 6.53 crore savings in the power bill annually.

Commitment to Green Energy

Speaking on the occasion, Shravan Hardikar, MD Maha Metro, expressed the organization’s commitment to generating green energy for a cleaner environment. He highlighted that Maha Metro is dedicated to environment conservation and reducing pollution through sustainable practices.

As Pune Metro continues to integrate green solutions into its operations, the Solar Power Plant at Range Hill Depot stands as a testament to its commitment to a sustainable and eco-friendly future.
