Empowering Dreams: Refurbished Computers Provide Opportunities for Pune’s Aspiring Students

Pune, 18th October 2023: In a heartening initiative, the Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative (APCCI), in collaboration with the Poornam Ecovision Foundation, celebrated International E-Waste Day with a special event. With a noble aim of enhancing educational resources for economically disadvantaged students with aspirations, 15 refurbished computers were donated to NGOs, organizations, and the children of waste warriors, including the Vanwasi Kalyan Ashram in Ghodegaon, Pune District, and the Navbharat Kanya Niwas Hostel in Ahmednagar District. The students expressed their joy at receiving these computers, which provide them with access to a wide array of educational tools. Notably, these computers were refurbished from e-waste collected earlier.

Dignitaries Present

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including Krishnan Komandur, CEO of APCCI, Malhar Karwande, COO of APCCI, Dr. Rajesh Manerikar, CEO of the Poornam Ecovision Foundation, and Sathya Natarajan, Lead Volunteer at APCCI, among others.

A Green Initiative

At a time when the global generation of electronic waste (E-waste) is on the rise, initiatives like this not only help divert e-waste from landfills but also empower students from economically vulnerable backgrounds by providing them with enhanced educational tools to pursue their dreams.

Environmental and Educational Collaboration

In Pune, APCCI and the Poornam EcoVision Foundation have joined forces with the Pune Municipal Corporation to facilitate door-to-door e-waste collection across many parts of the city. As part of this collaborative endeavor, electric vehicles (e-vehicles) have been deployed by APCCI. The entire process, from scheduling e-waste pickups to segregating it for recycling or reuse, is facilitated by the Poornam EcoVision Foundation. Citizens can request e-waste pickups by calling the helpline at 7522999155, where a representative will gather necessary information, including name, address, and the type of e-waste to be discarded. Subsequently, a date and time for e-waste pickup will be arranged as per the e-vehicle’s schedule. Alternatively, a QR code system is in place, allowing citizens to fill out a form with their details. The e-vehicle will then collect the e-waste at the appointed time and date. All collected e-waste is sent to an authorized recycler for proper handling.

This collaborative effort not only supports environmental sustainability but also empowers the future of Pune by providing aspiring students with the tools they need to succeed in their educational journey.
