Police Take Action Against 20-Year-Old Involved in Hit-and-Run Incident Near Pathare Chowk
A 20-year-old driver, identified as Prashant Santosh Kadam from Nirgudi in the Haveli area of Pune district, has been apprehended by the police following a hit-and-run incident involving two traffic policemen in Dighi on Monday.
The collision occurred near the labour camp in Charholi around 11:30 am, as reported by the authorities. Sub-inspector Shrikant Temgire, along with constables Kalyan Bhosale, Mayur Sawant, and Rahul Mote, were stationed near Pathare Chowk to regulate traffic flow. Mote and Bhosale attempted to halt a white car with tinted windows approaching from Charholi, but the driver of the speeding vehicle struck the two officers, causing serious injuries to Mote.
The driver, Prashant Santosh Kadam, was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement personnel and presented before the court. The court granted police custody of the accused until April 12 to facilitate further investigation into the matter.
Vijay Dhamal, senior inspector at the Dighi Police Station, provided details on the severity of Mote’s injuries, stating, “Mote suffered a skull fracture in the accident and is currently receiving medical treatment at a private hospital. Furthermore, it was discovered that Kadam did not possess valid car insurance.”
In response to the incident, a case has been registered against the accused under Sections 307, 353, 333, and 279 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, highlighting the seriousness of the offense.
