DPU Hospital’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month Initiative: Walk for Pink and Mammography Camp

Pune : DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital in Pimpri, Pune, organized a series of events to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, demonstrating its commitment to the fight against one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. Among these events was “Walk for Pink: Walk for a Hope,” a walkathon that brought together prominent doctors from the hospital, breast cancer patients, staff, and medical students. Over 500 participants donned pink ribbons, symbolizing their dedication to raising awareness about breast cancer. Additionally, the hospital conducted a five-day free Mammography camp for women aged 40 and above, recognizing their elevated risk of breast cancer.

The walkathon featured key doctors from DPU Private Super Specialty Hospital, including Dr. Dakshayini Nirhale, HOD of General Surgery; Dr. Yashwant Nankar, HOD of Pain Management; Dr. Pankaj Kshirsagar, Consultant Oncosurgeon; Dr. Reshma Puranik, Consultant Medical Oncologist and Hematooncologist; Dr. Pratiksha Yadav, HOD of Interventional Radiology; and Dr. Sameer Gupta, HOD of Oncosurgery. The event served as a poignant reminder of the hospital’s dedication to breast cancer awareness.

In addition to the walkathon, the hospital organized virtual and in-person informational sessions on social media, within the hospital, and with corporate partners. These sessions featured senior medical professionals discussing various aspects of breast cancer prevention and treatment.

The free Mammography camp held from October 27 to 31, 2023, catered to women aged 40 and above due to their increased risk of breast cancer. The camp aimed to promote early screening and detection among this demographic.

Dr. Bhagyashree P. Patil, Pro-Chancellor of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pimpri, Pune, emphasized the importance of raising awareness and providing accessible treatment facilities. She stated, “Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer not just in India, but worldwide.
