Digital Transformation: PMC Introduces Online Auction for Diwali Firecracker Stalls

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), in conjunction with the local police and fire departments, typically grants permissions for Diwali firecracker stalls. However, this year marks a significant change in the process, as PMC has introduced an online bidding system to allocate vacant spaces within its jurisdiction for these stalls. While the move towards digitalization is a commendable step, it has given rise to some challenges, with applicants encountering difficulties in filling out online forms and addressing other issues.

PMC’s new approach involves renting out empty spaces, including those at Vartak Garden Shaniwar Peth, for the purpose of setting up firecracker stalls. The entire process, from application to allocation, will be conducted through an online auction. All the necessary information, including available locations, terms and conditions, and application details, can be found on PMC’s official website (https://pmc.gov.in/).

To participate in the online auction, applicants must follow the provided instructions carefully. Successful candidates are expected to submit scanned copies of their PAN card, Aadhaar card, and licenses, in addition to a deposit of Rs. 30,000 for vacant spaces and Rs. 50,000 for those at Shaniwar Peth, Vartak Garden. The allocation of vacant spaces will be contingent on the fulfillment of all specified criteria.

Once selected, stallholders will be provided with a space measuring 15′ x 10′. They are responsible for ensuring the safe construction of their stalls at their own expense, with a mandatory removal of the structures after the designated period. Moreover, successful applicants need to obtain no-objection letters from the Fire Department, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch), and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Circle No. 1). An undertaking of Rs. 500, notarized on stamp paper, is also required from successful depositors.

As PMC adapts to modern practices and introduces digital solutions, it’s important for applicants to familiarize themselves with the online bidding process to make the most of this opportunity to secure a space for Diwali firecracker stalls within Pune.
