Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis Takes Action, Scraps Pune Market Yard Fish Market Plan

In response to vehement objections and protests from concerned citizens, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed officials to cancel a proposal aimed at establishing a fish market within Pune’s market yard. The proposal had received approval from the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) and outlined plans to create a dedicated space for a fish and chicken market inside the APMC market premises in Gultekdi, with approximately 30 shops set to be established.

However, local citizens, activists, and vendors voiced their strong opposition to the proposal, staging demonstrations against the plan. Many of these protestors also brought their concerns to the attention of Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil. MLA of the area, Madhuri Misal, conveyed that Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis had instructed Minister Abdul Sattar to withdraw the proposal for Pune’s APMC market.

“Given the densely populated area surrounding the market yard, the establishment of a fish market here could potentially lead to health concerns for the residents. The citizens had been actively protesting against it, and after discussing the matter with the Deputy Chief Minister, he directed the concerned department’s minister, Abdul Sattar, to cancel the proposal,” stated Madhuri Misal.

Previously, citizens had organized demonstrations at the APMC market, citing concerns that the introduction of a fish market could lead to an increase in the number of vehicles within the market yard premises, exacerbating existing parking issues within the market area.
