Dengue outbreak in Pune, civic body takes prohibitive measures

Pune: Cases of dengue have started increasing after the onset of monsoon in the city. As many as 20 suspected patients of the disease were found at Sadaanand Nagar in Mangalwar Peth. The Health Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken immediate steps and clamped prohibitive measures in the area.

The patients have been found since June 20 in the area. Nine of them have been confirmed to have contracted the infection. The civic body has taken immediate prohibitive measures since so many patients have been detected at one place.

Dr Suryakant Devkar, Assistant Health Officer, PMC, said, “We have started taking prohibitive steps after 20 dengue patients were found in Sadaanand Nagar. They have been admitted to the Kamala Nehru Hospital. We are conducting a survey in the area and a health check-up of citizens has begun. Patients with dengue-like symptoms are being treated urgently.“

In all, 63 patients of dengue have been detected this month in the city, of them 21 have been found in this week alone. This year, 393 suspected cases of the disease have been reported in the city till date. In all, nine patients of chikungunya have also been found in the city this year. The civic body has issued notices to 560 residential and commercial establishments in the city for not cleaning mosquito-breeding sites. A total fine of Rs 1.06 lakh has been recovered for non-compliance with the notice.
