Cracking Down for a Safe Diwali: Sangvi Police’s Traffic Violation Clampdown

Pune Traffic Diversion

As the city streets buzz with Diwali shoppers, Sangvi Police in Pune have taken proactive measures to maintain law and order, safeguarding the safety of residents. Over the past two days, a focused effort has been directed towards the Pimple Gurav area, with an emphasis on cracking down on traffic violations to ensure public safety during the festive season.

A significant police presence was observed on Tuesday evening at Kate Puram Chowk in Pimple Gurav, reminiscent of measures taken two years ago during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. This time, Sangvi Police actively patrolled busy streets, collaborating with traffic police and the Damini Pathak to enforce road safety rules. Violations such as triple seaters on two-wheelers, the use of black film on four-wheelers, and reckless driving were met with strict action. Vehicles underwent thorough checks, including verification of number plates on both sides, examination of vehicle documents, and licenses, ensuring compliance with road safety regulations. The increased scrutiny led to some individuals hastily leaving the area upon encountering the police.

Grateful citizens, vendors, and businessmen engaged in Diwali shopping expressed their appreciation for Sangvi Police’s proactive measures. The increased safety measures not only address concerns related to accidents and crimes but also enable residents to partake in festive shopping without fear. The citizens credited the enhanced safety to the smart city initiatives and the vigilant efforts of the police in maintaining law and order.

The Commissioner’s strategy for the festive season emphasizes the presence of police officers patrolling on foot, ensuring a continuous and visible presence in busy areas. Kate Puram Chowk, being a bustling hub, receives special attention, with thorough inspections for drivers coming from Dapodi and Kasarwadi areas. Suspected individuals face immediate vehicle impoundment and case registration. The police assert that ensuring citizens’ safety during the festive season is their top priority.

Ramchandra Ghadge, Sangvi Senior Police Inspector, stated, “During the festive season, the Commissioner’s concept is that while the police are patrolling the streets on foot, they should stand in the middle of busy Chowks and make continuous efforts to maintain law and order. This will help immensely in curbing any untoward incident, accident, crime, or miscreants. Kate Puram Chowk here is a busy area. If drivers coming from Dapodi, and Kasarwadi areas are found at this intersection, they are being thoroughly investigated. If such a suspect is found, the vehicle will be impounded, and a case will be registered immediately. Keeping citizens safe is our duty during the festive season.”
