ABVP Threatens Protest Unless Action Taken Against Display Contrary to Democratic Principles
The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics has come under scrutiny after banners advocating for voting for None of the Above (NOTA) were displayed on its premises, sparking controversy and raising concerns about democratic values.
Over the past few days, posters urging voters to choose NOTA have been prominently displayed on the Academy building at Gokhale Institute. These posters, adorned with the logos of both the Institute and the Election Commission, have drawn criticism for their stance against the democratic process.
The Election Commission has issued notices regarding these banners, condemning their content as contrary to democratic principles and the nation’s interests. Despite the notices, no action has been taken by the administration to remove the banners or address the issue.
According to reports, the banners have been on display for the past two to three days, raising questions about the Institute’s stance on political neutrality and adherence to electoral regulations. Failure to promptly address the matter has prompted threats of protest from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a prominent student organization.
ABVP has stated that if immediate action is not taken against those responsible for the posters, they will organize protests today. Additionally, complaints will be lodged with both the Election Commission and the police, seeking intervention to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
