Lok Sabha Elections: Significant Cash Seizures Made in Pune District, Violating Model Code of Conduct

Flying Squads Crack Down on Code Violations, Rs 65 Lakh Cash and Vehicle Seized in Two Incidents

As Lok Sabha general elections unfold in Pune district, enforcement teams have intensified efforts to uphold the model code of conduct, resulting in substantial seizures of cash and assets. Recent operations conducted by flying squads have led to the confiscation of approximately Rs 65 lakhs in cash and a vehicle, highlighting the strict enforcement measures in place.

With the implementation of stringent regulations under the model code of conduct, individuals are prohibited from carrying cash exceeding Rs 50,000 during the election period. To ensure compliance, teams are conducting thorough inspections of vehicles at checkpoints throughout the district.

The first incident occurred during the early hours of April 8th, when officers from the Bhosari MIDC police observed a suspicious black Fortuner SUV with fancy number plates near C Circle, Bhosari MIDC Police Station. Upon investigation, authorities discovered Rs 13 lakh and 90 thousand concealed within the vehicle, leading to the seizure of both the cash and the SUV.

In a separate operation on April 10th, personnel from the Shirur police station intercepted a private vehicle near Kaman Bridge within the Shirur Nagar Parishad area. Subsequent inspection revealed a sum totaling Rs 51 lakh 16 thousand. The flying squad promptly notified the Income Tax Department regarding the discovery for further scrutiny.

Ajay More, Election Decision Officer, has confirmed that the confiscated amount has been securely stored in the treasury, awaiting the outcome of inquiries conducted by the Income Tax Department.
