Congress Urges Sharad Pawar to Reconsider Sharing Stage with PM Modi During Lokmanya Tilak National Award Event

On August 1, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to be honored with the prestigious Lokmanya Tilak National Award by the Tilak Smarak Trust. During this event, Sharad Pawar, the prominent leader and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo, is also expected to be in attendance. However, leaders from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are urging Sharad Pawar to reconsider his decision to share the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Congress, an ally of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, has joined the appeal, requesting Pawar to rethink his participation in the event.

The award ceremony will witness Chief Trustee Deepak Tilak presenting the esteemed Lokmanya Tilak National Award to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Interestingly, this occasion marks the first time since the NCP split that Sharad Pawar and Narendra Modi will share a platform. Initially, there were debates and uncertainties surrounding Sharad Pawar’s presence at the event, but Rohit Tilak, another trustee, has expressed confidence in his attendance. Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad has taken the initiative to appeal to Sharad Pawar on this matter.

As a member of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, Varsha Gaikwad highlighted the significance of this appeal. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming to Pune. Sharad Pawar will be attending the event. However, as a part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi, we request him to think once before going,” Gaikwad stated.

Furthermore, Gaikwad emphasized the ongoing efforts of the Maha Vikas Aghadi to raise awareness among the masses about the Manipur incident and condemn it. She questioned the appropriateness of sharing the stage with someone who has not visited Manipur during the troubling times. Gaikwad’s appeal reflects the Congress’ concern and seeks Pawar’s thoughtful contemplation on the matter.

Adding to the appeal, Gaikwad pointed out the situation in Manipur, where women were seeking help, but the central government’s response was seemingly inadequate. She drew attention to the Prime Minister’s engagements with foreign trips while the region was in turmoil, raising concerns about the lack of assistance provided.

As the event draws near, the appeal to Sharad Pawar from the Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders adds a layer of significance to the award ceremony. It remains to be seen how Sharad Pawar will respond to this call for reconsideration as the political landscape observes this anticipated event.
