In a recent weather update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), residents of Maharashtra can anticipate a chilly turn in the weather, starting January 19. According to a senior official at IMD Pune, maximum temperatures across the state are projected to remain below average, particularly during the week of January 19–25.
As of now, minimum temperatures in north-central Madhya Maharashtra, west Vidarbha, and northern Marathwada regions, including Pune, are expected to experience a slight rise until January 19. However, the official highlighted a gradual drop in Pune’s minimum temperatures in the upcoming days, signaling the onset of cooler weather.
Currently, minimum temperatures in Pune, particularly at Shivajinagar, are notably above average, ranging between 15–17.3°C—four to six degrees above the typical range. Despite the upcoming drop, minimum temperatures are anticipated to remain above the usual range until January 19.
The official attributed the decrease in minimum temperatures to the expected northerly wind flow from January 12–15, clear skies, and reduced cloud cover. Northerly winds, characteristic of colder regions in North India, contribute to a cooling effect across Maharashtra. Additionally, clear skies and diminished cloud cover facilitate increased heat loss from the earth’s surface, resulting in lower minimum temperatures.
Residents are advised to prepare for the cooler weather expected from January 19 to January 25, as IMD Pune foresees temperatures somewhat below average during this period.
