Cloudy Start to December: Pune Braces for Delayed Winter, IMD Forecasts Weather Changes

As Pune steps into December, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) delivers a weather update that defies traditional expectations. Instead of the anticipated chilly temperatures, the first week of December is expected to bring cloudy conditions to the state, including Pune.

IMD officials have pointed to a potential low-pressure system in the southeast Bay of Bengal, hinting at its transformation into a depression within the next 24 hours. Further intensification into a cyclonic storm is projected around December 3, adding a layer of uncertainty to the weather forecast.

Anupam Kashyapi, the head of the weather and forecasting department at IMD Pune, anticipates rainfall and thunderstorms in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in the coming days. The weather system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to induce cloudy weather in Maharashtra, commencing around December 4.

While Pune’s sky is expected to remain mostly clear in the next 48 hours, some areas might experience morning haze. Recent days have seen Marathwada and Central Maharashtra under cloudy conditions with occasional moderate rains. This trend is set to persist as the Bay of Bengal weather system gains strength. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is on the horizon for the next 48 hours. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Vidarbha and Marathwada during this period.
