Pune’s weather is set to usher in the new year with a touch of chill and overcast conditions, as per the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The prediction indicates that Pune will experience cloudy skies and a drop in the minimum temperature between December 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024.
Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, Head of the Weather Forecasting Department at IMD Pune, shared insights on the upcoming weather conditions. According to his statement, there is a chance of light rain over Maharashtra during the New Year days, particularly in isolated places of North Eastern Maharashtra. The impact is expected to extend to North Western India from December 30, with light isolated rain likely in North Western and Central India until January 2, 2024.
While Pune and other parts of Maharashtra are currently enjoying typical weather with clear skies and a gradual rise in minimum temperature, a change is anticipated in the upcoming week. Starting from December 28, cold winds are expected to sweep across northern India and the northeastern states, bringing cloudy weather to Pune. The IMD also foresees an increase in fog in some areas during this period. From December 29 to January 1, daytime highs in Pune are predicted to decrease.
A cold start to the new year may be facilitated by morning fog in certain parts of Pune and its surroundings. Pashan, a neighborhood in Pune, recorded a low of nine degrees Celsius in the past week. Residents of Pune are advised to brace themselves for colder weather conditions during the first few days of 2024 as they prepare to welcome the new year.
