The official inauguration of these child-friendly cells took place on Tuesday, 15th August, at seven police stations, including Samarth, Mundhwa, Kondhwa, Wanwadi, Marketyard, Bibvewadi, and Hadapsar. The establishment of these child-friendly cells is a response to the growing need for a sensitive approach to children who are impacted by legal matters. The initiative commenced with the first Child Friendly Cell being set up at Lashkar Police Station in the state.

The collaborative partnership between Pune Police Commissionerate and the Hope for the Children Foundation has led to the establishment of these cells across a total of 23 police stations in the city. The cells are specifically designed to focus on counseling children who have been affected by legal conflicts, aiming to support their rehabilitation and well-being. Additionally, these cells will offer vocational training opportunities through voluntary organizations, enhancing the children’s prospects for the future.

The inauguration event saw the presence of key figures including Commissioner of Police Ritesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioners Pravin Kumar Patil and Ranjan Sharma, as well as representatives from the Hope for Children Foundation, Sangita Jadhav and Caroline Audoir de Valter.
