Call for Relaxing UDCPR Act in Kasba Constituency for Development in Shaniwarwada Area

Kasba Peth, 11th August 2023: The development and revitalization of historical mansions and old societies in the Gavthan area have become a pressing need. However, the stringent regulations outlined in the Urban Development and Controlled Planning Regulations (UDCPR) have posed considerable challenges for citizens and developers alike.

One of the prominent restrictions imposed by the UDCPR is the requirement of a one-meter side margin for constructions exceeding a height of 15 meters. This regulation has proven to be a stumbling block for redevelopment initiatives. In response to this predicament, Hemant Rasane, Kasba Assembly Election Chief of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former Standing Committee Chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), has reached out to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, urging for a relaxation of this rule. Detailed discussions on this matter transpired during a meeting with Fadnavis.

The city of Pune boasts a wealth of historical structures, many of which fall under the purview of preservation regulations set forth by the Archaeology Department. These regulations impose restrictions on construction and repairs within a 100-meter radius of these historical sites. The impact of these regulations is palpable in the Shaniwarwada area, where they have repercussions on various developmental activities and livelihoods.

Rasane stated, “Following a discussion with Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil and ongoing efforts for resolution through his support, I sought the intervention of Deputy CM Fadnavis to address the concerns of citizens residing in this region. During our meeting, Fadnavis expressed his commitment to expedite legislative processes by advocating for the passage of a pending bill to amend the law.”

The discussions during the meeting extended to cover multiple development initiatives within the Kasba Constituency. A passionate appeal was made to Fadnavis to allocate state government funds to support these endeavors.

In response, Fadnavis assured proactive measures to address these significant challenges that directly impact the residents of Pune. He reiterated his commitment to finding effective solutions that align with the needs and aspirations of the local populace.
