Brazen Theft at SPPU: Sandalwood Trees Worth Rs. 20,000 Stolen Under Cover of Darkness

In a daring act of theft, two sandalwood trees valued at Rs. 20,000 were stolen from the premises of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on the night of March 1, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 PM and was promptly reported to the Chaturshrungi Police Station by Guard Ashok Mitkari.

Police Inspector Yuvraj Ashok Nandre of Chaturshrungi Police Station provided details, stating, “Three individuals infiltrated the campus, clandestinely chopping down the sandalwood trees under the cover of darkness. Two MSF Jawans patrolling the area noticed the suspicious activity, attempting to apprehend the intruders, but they managed to escape into the jungle area behind the campus.”

The stolen sandalwood plants, considered small in size, were estimated to be worth Rs. 20,000. The case is currently under investigation, and the police are actively pursuing leads, including a review of CCTV footage from nearby cameras. However, the lack of CCTV coverage near the stolen area poses a challenge, prompting a meticulous examination of the surrounding cameras for any potential leads.
